A new database now allows teachers, parents and school board members to access Mississippi School Board Association policies on one website.
Oxford School District board members were trained recently on the database and are ready to get to work on their policies with an eye on the state rules.
“Over the next year the board will begin a process of reviewing all policies,” Oxford School District Superintendent Brian Harvey said.
Harvey said the MSBA policy service will provide legal and policy information from the Mississippi Department of Education and will make the review a much easier process.
Policy Support Specialist Christie Milton said the new database has 137 subscribers. There are a total of 148 school districts in Mississippi.
“It is very beneficial to the district,” Milton said.
The search engine online allows website users to search for individual school policies. Board members will have online access to other school board policies across the state.
It will allow any parent who has questions, concerns or suggestions about school policies to review the policies before coming to a school board meeting if there is a complaint.
“It will make the process of reviewing policies more efficient,” Harvey said.
Once a policy is under consideration for revision, board members also won’t have to wait in between monthly meetings to become familiar with its verbiage. The board can head to the database to learn.
“It will speed up the process of reviewing and revising policies,” Milton said.
