Heavy rain expected Thursday; Early spring-like weather this weekend

Lafayette County residents can expect some heavy rain starting late tonight and continuing throughout Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain is expected to move into the area around 2 a.m. Thursday. The high temperature should reach about 67 degrees. Winds could gust up to about 25 mph.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue overnight and the rain may be heavy at times. Sustained winds 10 to 15 mph are expected with continued gusts up to 30 mph. A total of about 2 inches of rain is expected in Lafayette County.

With the ground fairly saturated, local flooding is possible.

The rain should begin to move out of the area early Friday morning with a few showers still possible until about noon on Friday.

The good news is that after the rain is gone the weekend and early part of next week are expected to feel like an early spring with lots of sunshine expected Saturday through at least Tuesday with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s and lows in the mid-40s overnight.
