Olympic silver medalist and Oxford resident Sam Kendricks flipped the switch Thursday evening to turn on the Christmas lights around the downtown Square.
The city decorated the Square trees and turned on the lights early to show off the town’s beauty before the Ole Miss vs. Georgia home football game this weekend, and allow Ole Miss students time to enjoy the Christmas holiday in Oxford before returning home for the holidays.
Holiday events are also starting to take place, starting on Sunday with the Shop Oxford Holiday Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Santa will be on hand for early Christmas holiday photos. There will be a Kids Craft Village, hot chocolate and cookies, door prizes at area stores and more.
