The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation are wrapping up the year with two final Big Bad Business workshops in September and October, designed to support and inspire local entrepreneurs and small business owners.

These workshops offer valuable opportunities to learn from industry experts and engage with fellow business-minded individuals, all while being free to the public.

The September event, “Round Robin,” will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Powerhouse. This workshop is a unique part of the BBB series, offering one-on-one consultations with experts on a range of important business topics.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year because it brings together so many aspects of small business. It lets you ask the initial question in a laid-back environment to see if you need to pursue further professional help. You can dip your toe in,” said Meghan Gallagher, coordinator of the Big Bad Business Series.

Attendees sign up for up to four 20-minute sessions, where they’ll get personalized advice on subjects such as website design, digital content development, nonprofit organization, strategic planning, small business establishment, business plans, small business finance, entrepreneurship, accountancy, and marketing.

Whether you’re an aspiring entrepreneur, an artist, or someone looking to refine their business strategy, this event will provide expert insights tailored to your needs. Since space is limited, it’s important to reserve your spot at Oxfordarts.com as soon as possible.

In October, the “Night of Genius” workshop will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 22 on October at the Powerhouse. This workshop offers an exciting opportunity for participants to present their business ideas or challenges in an open, supportive environment. Each presenter will have 5-7 minutes to share their concept or problem and receive valuable feedback from the BBB experts and peers in attendance.

With no formal presentations or slides required, this casual, business-focused brainstorming session encourages participants to engage directly with the audience. The event will showcase roughly five presenters, depending on time, and promises a few surprises for those who share their ideas.

“I’m excited to learn about the creative ideas in Oxford and to help people achieve small business growth,” said Jonathan Clayton, AmeriCorps VISTA to the project.

Both workshops are free to attend, but spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged at Oxfordarts.com.
