Abbeville native McEwen is going to Paris

Abbeville native and former Oxford Charger Shelby McEwen has earned a spot on Team USA ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
McEwen won the high jump finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Sunday afternoon, completing a peak jump of 2.30 meters.
McEwen beat out 12 other competitors in the finals.
This marks the second trip to the Summer Olympic games for McEwen, who finished 12th in the world in Tokyo.
McEwen’s athletic career started at Oxford High School, where he balanced basketball and track from 2013-2015. After graduating in 2015, he went to Northwest Mississippi Community College where he excelled in track and basketball.
The son of Michael and Sharon McEwen, he received a scholarship to the University of Alabama from 2017-19 where he continued to earn numerous All-American and All-SEC accolades.
At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, McEwen finished 12th overall in the high jump.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will begin on July 26 and run through August 11.
