With the Fourth of July holiday happening on a Thursday, many local government offices are closing for a four-day weekend and trash collection for most will be either a day early, or in some cases, a week later.
There will be no garbage, recycling or rubbish pickup on Thursday or Friday in either the city limits of Oxford or Lafayette County.
In Oxford, all Thursday and Friday routes will be collected on Wednesday, July 3. Trash should be at the curb by 6 a.m.
For Lafayette County households, Thursday’s routes will be collected on Wednesday; however, Friday’s routes won’t be collected until the following Friday, on July 12, due to the landfill being closed on Thursday and Friday.
All city and county offices have opted to close on both Thursday and Friday.
Most state and federal courts and offices, the U.S. Post Office and banks will be closed on Thursday. Check with individual branches and offices on whether they are open on Friday.
The Oxford-University Transit buses will not run on July 4th.
Parking around the downtown Square and in the city’s parking garage will be free on Thursday.
The Oxford-Lafayette County Public Library will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
