Chargers split with DeSoto Central; 7-3 record in district games

The Oxford Chargers split a series with DeSoto Central Jaguars, taking game one 3-0 before dropping a 12-2 contest on the road. The team is now 17-9 on the season with a 7-3 record in 7A Region 1 play.

The Chargers beat the Jags 3-0 on Friday night at home, getting on the scoreboard in the first inning when Brock Siskey stole home.
Starter Brady Stinnett kept DeSoto Central off the scoreboard through four innings, allowing just two hits. The Chargers added a run in the fourth on a ground ball single by Sharpe Smith.
In the sixth, Reid Kent delivered a single that scored a run to give Oxford a 3-0 lead.
Stinnett worked seven complete innings and surrendered no runs on three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

The Jags run ruled the Chargers 12-2 Monday night in Southaven.
Oxford got on the scoreboard in the top of the first as Carson Schmelzer got a base hit and Sam Roy came in to score. DeSoto Central answered with two runs of their own in the first and second inning each. The Jags went up 4-1.
Oxford had Barrett Kamman on the mound to start the game, and he worked 1.1 innings while surrendering four runs on six hits with a strikeout.
In the second, Hayes Huggins took the mound for the Chargers. He worked 3.0 innings and surrendered eight runs (six earned) on eight hits with a strikeout.
The Chargers scored a run in the third as Reid Kent homered to center field to make it 4-2 Jags. Kent finished the game going 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and an RBI.
DeSoto Central added three runs in the bottom of the third on two base knocks to go up 7-2.
The Jags scored two more runs in the fourth on a double and a single, pushing the score to 9-2.
The home team added three runs in the fifth to make it 12-2.
Oxford was scheduled to play Tuesday at home against Corinth.
