Oxford is going to be a busy place over the next few weeks, starting with this weekend.
“We expect good crowds starting this weekend and those crowds will grow with each weekend moving forward,” said Oxford Police Chief Jeff McCutchen. “We will not have any road closures this weekend but we will have different traffic patterns the following weekends.”
The big event already wreaking havoc on traffic around town today is the Ole Miss Baseball series against Mississippi State University that starts tonight at 7 p.m. at Swayze Field.
Saturday’s game against the in-state rival is slated for 7:30 p.m. and is sold out, according to Ole Miss Athletics. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
Before Saturday’s game against the Bulldogs, fans can head to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for the Grove Bowl Games, starting at 3 p.m.
The Games will include seven-on-seven action and some skills competition fun. There will be an obstacle course, a dunk competition and a hot dog-eating competition. Joining the hot dog eating competition will be champion competitive eater, Joseph Chestnut.
Also on Saturday, Mississippi Day returns to the Ole Miss campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Grove. The event celebrates the state of Mississippi and the university’s contributions to its culture, education, health care and economy through hands-on activities, demonstrations, food and more.
Other activities include Stuff-a-Pup, a climbing wall, a photo booth, an inflatable slide, a bounce house, assorted games and music.
Park at Tad Smith Coliseum or the Ford Center for the Performing Arts with courtesy shuttles running. ADA Parking is available at the Bishop/Chapel Lot with ADA shuttles running.
The busy weekend will conclude with Ole Miss and MSU’s final game of the series starting at 1:30 p.m. at Swayze Field.
Next weekend, country music star Morgan Wallen returns to Oxford with a concert at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on April 20, and the following weekend, April 26-27 is the Double Decker Arts Festival.
