Lafayette County has been upgraded from a “slight” severe weather risk to an “enhanced” risk by the National Weather Service.
An enhanced risk is a 3 on the NWS’s severe weather risk 1 to 5 scale, with 1 being little risk and 5 being the highest risk for severe weather.
Storms are expected to start rolling in around 11 a.m.; however, the NWS is saying the worst of the storms are expected in Oxford from 3 to 7 p.m.
The main risks are high winds, possibly 60 mph+, and large hair – up to 2 inches. There is a 13% increased risk for tornadoes.
