Man, 67, arrested in domestic violence case

An investigation regarding a report of domestic violence resulted in a 67-year-old man being charged with Aggravated Domestic Violence and Rape – Assault with intent to Ravish.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department received the report March 2 and investigators conducted interviews with the victim and witnesses. Once those were complete, investigators were able to establish probable cause for an arrest warrant and search warrant of the residence where the crime allegedly occurred.
The suspect, Henry Roy Smith III, 67, of Lafayette Springs, Miss., was taken into custody at his residence without incident.
The victim has received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the assault. Due to the nature of the crime, no other information will be available at this time.
This is an ongoing investigation. Smith appeared before a Justice Court judge on March 2 and received a bond of $100,000. He is currently being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center awaiting bond.
