With the sun shining again over Oxford, residents will not only hear but possibly get to see more military helicopters today.
On Saturday, more than 50 Blackhawks and Apaches with the 101st Airborn Division (Air Assault) landed at the Oxford-University Airport as part of a large-scale military training exercise.
About 20 to 25 helicopters will return to the airport today from 1 to 5 p.m. as they return home to Fort Campbell, Kentucky from Fort Johnson, Lousiana.
Due to the winter storm, the airport is closed except for these participating military aircraft. Conditions remain far too unsafe for normal operations, according to Oxford-University Airport manager Jacob Pind.
