Oxford residents who still need to get around during the COVID-19 pandemic but do not have their own transportation are still able to use Oxford University Transit, on a limited basis.

Earlier this week, OUT announced its intention to still remain operational but said the service is scaling back their routes in an effort to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Only Red North, Red South, Blue East, Blue West and Purple lines are still operational. The lines are running from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

“Oxford University Transit is committed to the safety of our riders and communities,” said OUT general manager Donna Zampella. “With the recent outbreak of COVID-19, we have taken precautions to keep our buses sanitary.”

Every OUT bus is equipped with hand sanitizer dispensers, and throughout the day, drivers are disinfecting their buses, according to Zampella. Each OUT bus is cleaned thoroughly each night. Riders are also encouraged to not ride the bus if they are feeling ill or have a fever.

Riders are also encouraged to give each other space from other riders, to keep with the recommendation of keeping at least six feet of separation to prevent the spread of the disease.

“We want to make sure all residents have transportation only if it is necessary,” Zampella said. “Please remember, we are all trying to quarantine for 14 days and need everyone’s help to remain in your home unless it is necessary to get out.”
