City of Oxford approves resolution to extend Sunday alcohol sales for Super Bowl

Those who choose to take in the Big Game on the Downtown Square will be not be rushed to finish their adult beverages before the end of the night.
Oxford’s Board of Aldermen approved a resolution to extend the hours of alcohol sales on Sunday, Feb. 2 for Super Bowl 54. The resolution passed unanimously during a special meeting held on Tuesday.
Mark Huelse made the motion to approve, and John Morgan seconded the motion. Aldermen Rick Addy and Kesha Howell-Atkinson voted via phone, and Janice Antonow was not present.
The resolution extends the sale of alcohol at bars and restaurants on the Square by two hours. The normal hours to purchase alcohol on Sundays are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Patrons will be able to buy alcohol until 11 p.m. this Sunday.
A similar resolution was approved by the City in 2019.
Mississippi’s Alcoholic Beverage Control must approve the City’s resolution before the extended hours can be officially implemented. The resolution was sent to Jackson on Tuesday and is anticipated to be approved.
