Robert “Larry” Schmitz, an EMT paramedic with Baptist Ambulance Oxford, was recently recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians for achieving 20 consecutive years of EMT certification.
A distinction earned by few EMS Professionals, Schmitz maintained his status as a National EMTP by completing on a biennial basis the most comprehensive recertification program for EMS professionals in the country.
“By maintaining his National EMS Certification and completing regular continuing education courses, Schmitz has demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional medical care,” a news release announcing Schmitz’s honor said.
Schmitz was nationally registered as a paramedic in 1998 and has been serving the LOU Community since then. Prior to his role as an EMT in Lafayette County, he was employed at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley for 11 years.
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians serves as the National EMS Certification organization by providing a valid, uniform process to assess the knowledge and skills required for competent practice by EMS professionals throughout their careers and by maintaining certification status.
