Mississippi high school basketball state finals could soon be played here in Oxford.
The MHSAA announced some significant changes to the high school basketball playoffs on Wednesday at the District One meeting on Wednesday. Starting with the 2019-20 season, the state finals will no longer be played in Jackson at the Mississippi Coliseum. Instead, championship games will be played either at The Pavilion at Ole Miss or Humphrey Coliseum at Mississippi State University in Starkville.
Which of the two will host next year will be determined by the still-to-be-released SEC schedule. The plan will be to alternate between the two universities.
The state semifinal games will still be played at the Mississippi Coliseum, yet the quarterfinal sites are also being changed. Four neutral sites, two in the north and two in the south, will host the quarterfinal match-ups. The northern sites are Itawamba Community College and Mississippi Valley State University.
