Absentee voting for the general municipal election in June opened on Monday for the general municipal election in June.
The only opposed race will take place in Ward 1 where William Summers Mayo (Republican), Erin Smith (Independent) and Drew Stevens (Independent) are running to become the next Ward 1 aldermen.
Currently, that seat is held by Alderman Ricky Addy; however, Addy opted not to run again this year.
Since there is only one person running as a Republican and the other two are running as Independents, there was no primary election.
No one qualified to run against Mayor Robyn Tannehill either, so she will be at the helm of Oxford for another four years.
The deadline to vote absentee is May 31.
There will not be a runoff for the general election. The most votes will win. Everyone will vote at the Oxford Conference Center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 3.
All absentee voting is done at the Lafayette County Circuit Clerk’s Court Office.
The deadline to register to vote is May 5.
Including its normal hours of Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Clerk’s Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 24 and 31 for absentee voting.
