Regents School of Oxford announces new athletic leadership

After an extensive search process, Regents School of Oxford has hired Luke Buckner as Director of Athletics and JoJo Pearson as Assistant Athletics Director.

The hiring committee reviewed an extremely qualified pool of candidates and selected Buckner for his passion for excellence, his vision for Regents Athletics, and his commitment to Regents’ mission and philosophy of athletics.

He will oversee 13 sports and more than a dozen staff members, spanning all school divisions. Previously, he served as Interim Athletics Director and Head Boys Basketball and Baseball Coach.

With 12 years of experience, he has led teams to state championship games and division playoffs and earned recognition as an MAIS Basketball All-Star Team Coach.

Buckner began his teaching and coaching career at Starkville Christian School in 2012, serving as their Athletic Director from 2016-2020, and joined Regents in 2020. He holds a Fine Arts degree from Mississippi State University and is an active member of Pinelake Church. He and his wife, Caitlyn, have two children, Ocean and Everest.

Pearson, stepping into an expanded role, has served as Head Football and Track & Field Coach in addition to his teaching responsibilities since 2023. Previously, he was Head of School and Athletic Director at Calhoun Academy. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy & Religious Studies from Ole Miss and a Master’s of Education Degree from Mississippi College. Pearson and his wife, Leanna, have a son, Kylar, who attends Regents.

They will assume their new responsibilities on June 1.
