The U.S. Marshals Service office in Oxford is not closing.
Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Northern District, Richard Upchurch, confirmed that the Oxford office remains “fully operational.”
Recent reports on lease reductions by DOGE across Mississippi included a mention of the U.S. Marshals Service in Oxford. However, Upchurch clarified on Wednesday that the lease termination was for a storage unit, not the main office.
“The U.S. Marshals Service closed out a lease on some property used for storage,” Upchurch told the Eagle this morning.
The 600-square-foot storage space had an annual lease of $9,228.
Additionally, DOGE reported the termination of a lease for an IRS office on Harrison Drive in Oxford. However, that office had already been closed, with the lease set to expire in December.
