The Lafayette County School District has received the esteemed Beacon Award at the Mississippi School Board Association’s annual conference in recognition of its A-rated accountability status.
The award is presented to districts where every school within the district has earned an A rating, marking a significant achievement in academic excellence.
The award is currently on display at Lafayette Middle School, which earned its first-ever A rating this year.
“While we all know that we don’t teach for awards or accolades, it is truly nice to be recognized on a state level alongside our superintendent,” said LMS principal Jamie Everett. “As exciting as this award is, let’s not forget that the greatest achievement we can celebrate is the growth, success and development of our students as they evolve into productive, capable adults.
“I am beyond proud to work alongside such a dedicated and hard-working team, and I am excited for all the great things we will continue to accomplish together.”

Kate Riddle
In addition to the district’s recognition, Lafayette High School senior Kate Riddle, the Senior Student Representative of the Mississippi State Board of Education, had the honor of sharing her insights on leadership and education as part of a panel at the MSBA annual conference.
“As education changes every day, it is important that student voices are heard and valued as we progress as a school and state,” Riddle said. “I am very grateful that Mississippi values its student input and gives us a platform to share our experiences with the leaders in charge of our education.”
