The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors approved a name change Tuesday for a county precinct during its regular meeting.
In 2019, the precinct for Abbeville voters moved from the Town Hall to Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. The Town Hall building was getting too small as the town’s population started to increase. Springfield had a new building that provided more space and more parking.
The voting; however, actually takes place in the church’s Life Center building and not in the actual church.
Supervisor Tim Gordon asked the Board, on behalf of the Election Commission, to consider renaming the precinct on county records to Springfield Life Center.
The Board unanimously approved the request.
In other business Tuesday, the Board:
- Approved a conditional use permit and the preliminary subdivision plat for three, four-unit townhomes in Phase 8 of Fieldstone Farms subdivision.
- Approved a conditional use permit to allow Zack McPhail to operate a cabinet shop on Country Road 367 after meeting conditions set forth by the fire department.
