OMS students excel at math competition; advance to state

Four Oxford Middle School students from the local MATHCOUNTS team have achieved a remarkable milestone by earning a perfect score in the team round at the recent MATHCOUNTS Chapter Competition.
The competition was held last week at the Center for Mathematics and Science Education in the Jackson Avenue Center in Oxford. Twelve students from OMS particpated in the event.
Aiden Jiang, Sagan Karthikeyan, Vi Nguyen and Raymond Sang placed first place in the team competition.
In addition to their team success, these students also shined in the individual rounds. Raymond Sang placed first, Vi Nguyen placed second, Sagan Karthikeyan placed fourth and Aiden Jiang placed fifth.
Their performances has qualified them for the State MATHCOUNTS Competition, which will be held at Madison Middle School in March.
OMS math teacher Allie Roberson is the team’s coach.
The competition saw participation from students across the region, including those from Starkville and Cleveland.
