Oxford High School’s cheerleading team returned to the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida, competing at Nationals for the first time since 2018. For all 23 team members, this marked their debut on the national stage.
The team entered the finals with the leading score in their division, and while their final placement brought some initial disappointment, head coach Amelie Goss expressed immense pride in their performance.
“We are just getting started as a program,” Goss said. “Our goal for next year is to come back to Oxford with a first-place trophy and the infamous, coveted white jackets.”
Goss said the Oxford School District and local community have provided tremendous support, displayed when the team returned home Tuesday night with dozens of fellow students, teachers, family members and community folks lined up as their bus pulled up to the OHS gym.
