Lafayette boys soccer will play for a state championship for the second consecutive season following a 1-0 win over Corinth in the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s Class 5A boys soccer playoffs on a foggy Tuesday night at William L. Buford Stadium.
Wesley Kilpatrick’s leaping header in front of Corinth goalkeeper Aiden Burcham off a corner kick from William Dees split two Warrior defenders to land in the back of the net in the 48th minute.
Corinth had a chance to tie in the final minute but a free kick from about 25 yards out went wide of the goal.
Lafayette will face South Jones in the state championship title match on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Germantown High School in Gluckstadt. Lafayette’s girls soccer team will also play in a state championship match at Germantown High School. Game time for that match against Florence is at noon.
