Tupelo defeated Oxford 2-1 on Monday night in the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s Class 7A North Half title game at Oxford Middle School.
Tupelo’s Tereza Perez kicked the winning goal midway through the second extra period after splitting two Oxford defenders, sending the Golden Wave to the championship game.
Oxford’s Amie Kate Reed scored to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead, but Tupelo’s Jamayeh Hubbard would later score on a free kick to tie the score before halftime.
The Chargers finish the season 18-3-2, while Tupelo, now 19-3-1, will face the winner of Tuesday night’s Brandon vs. Northwest Rankin on Saturday in Ridgeland for the state title.
