McEwen to play in Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

Abbeville native and 2024 Olympic silver medalist Shelby McEwen will play in the 2025 Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Friday.

The game is taking place at Oakland Arena in Oakland, California at 6 p.m. (7 p.m. ET) on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7 exclusively on ESPN platforms, including ESPN, ESPN + and Disney +.

The star-studded roster features celebrities from all walks of entertainment and sports, including music, film, Disney, Marvel, NFL, WWE and more. Cassidy Hubbarth will be host and Mark Jones will provide play-by-play commentary for the game, joined by analysts Richard Jefferson and Stephanie White.

McEwen will play on Team Rice with coaches Jerry Rice and Khaby Lame at the helm. His team roster includes Matt Barnes, Bayley, Chris Brickley, AP Dhillon, Druski, Walker Hayes, Terrell Owens, Shaboozey, Oliver Stark and Kayla Thornton.

Playing on his opposing team, Team Bounds (lead by coaches Barry Bonds and 2 Chainz), is Kai Genat, Baron Davis, Rome Flynn, Allisha Gray, Mickey Guyton, Tucker Halpern, Noah Kahan, Danny Ramirez, Masai Russell, Pablo Schrieber and Dylan Wang

McEwen attended Oxford High School, where he balanced basketball and track from 2013-2015. After graduating in 2015, he went to Northwest Mississippi Community College where he excelled in track and basketball.

The son of Michael and Sharon McEwen, he received a scholarship to the University of Alabama from 2017-19 where he continued to earn numerous All-American and All-SEC accolades.

At the 2024 Summer Olympics, McEwen jumped 2.36 m and was tied for the lead with New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr; both men were offered the option to share the gold medal. Kerr wanted to proceed to a jump-off, and McEwen agreed. McEwen ended up losing to Kerr and got the silver medal.
