The Oxford Board of Aldermen recently approved a request to allow construction crews to work on Sundays to expedite the renovations of the Oxford City Pool.
Special Projects Director Mark Levy submitted the request last week during the Board’s regular meeting on behalf of the contractor, JP Construction.
“There aren’t many residences in the area, but a church holds services at the Stone Center from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” Levy said.
Alderman Keisha Howell-Atkinson proposed a motion allowing the Sunday work but restricting it to between 1 and 7 p.m. The board approved the motion.
The renovation project began in mid-summer 2024, with the pool expected to reopen in late May 2025.
Levy explained that due to the specialized nature of the project—particularly the manufacturing of the custom-built stainless steel gutter system—much of the work could not begin until the demolition phase revealed existing conditions.
