Meteorologists say more snow expected than first forecast

According to the National Weather Service, more snow is expected for Lafayette County than first forecast earlier this week.

Snow is expected to fall after midnight on Thursday and continue into Friday. There is a 90% chance of snow Friday during the day and a 30% chance of snow Friday evening.

The probability of more than 2 inches of snow in Lafayette County is 74%. The probability of more than 4 inches of snow is currently 46%.

With the high on Saturday expected to be 34 degrees and 41 degrees on Sunday, snow could melt during the day; however, temperatures will drop well below freezing at night so refreezing of any snow or water is possible.

Oxford and Lafayette County school districts have not yet announced whether they will close but will notify parents via their text messaging systems and on social media.

The annual Oxford Indoor Yard Sale has been rescheduled. Originally slated for this Saturday, the new date is March 1.
