Today would be a good day to take down outdoor Christmas decorations or at least to make sure they’re secure.
Oxford is expected to get some serious storms Saturday night with wind gusts up to 60 mph possible.
The worst of the weather is expected between 4 p.m. through midnight.
On the National Weather Service’s severe weather risk 1 to 5 scale, Lafayette County is currently a 2. There is a slight chance of severe weather, with the possibility of a tornado, high winds, and heavy rain.
Thunderstorms are expected to produce 1.5-2 inches of rain Saturday night.
Oxford has a 5% chance of a significant tornado. There is a 10% chance of hail.
With high winds and wet trees, fallen limbs and trees are a real threat and could knock out power. The NWS recommends having several ways to get severe weather notifications and plans in place for tornadoes and know where shelters are located.
The high temperature for Saturday will be a balmy 67 degrees and the low will drop only to about 55 degrees overnight.
The rain will break way to a mostly sunny Sunday with a high near 63 and a light breeze.
