Handicapped parking spaces metered

Three parking meters were installed Friday in all handicapped parking spaces around the Square.
In May, the Oxford Board of Aldermen voted to approve the recommendation from the Mayor’s Disability Commission and meter all handicapped parking spaces around the Square and inside parking lots that are paid at a kiosk.
Chairman Cameron Stubbs said the reason for the commission’s recommendation was to try to prevent abuse of handicapped spaces and from people, credentialed or not, from parking in one spot all day.
There will be more meters eventually installed in the remaining handicapped spaces.
