Lyons earns second-straight MACCC Volleyball Player of the Week honors

Itawamba Community College’s Bree Lyons from Oxford has earned her second-straight Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honors, this time defensively, according to a conference announcement Tuesday.
A week after being named the MACCC’s first-ever Offensive Player of the Week, Lyons stepped up her game defensively, recording 52 digs and five blocks in the last five matches to earn not only MACCC Defensive Player of the Week honors, but also the first player in MACCC Volleyball history to earn consecutive Player of the Week honors.
Lyons recorded 12 digs along with a block against Pellissippi State on Aug. 29 . During the Chattanooga State Invitational this past weekend, the defensive specialist posted a team-best 14 digs and two blocks against John A. Logan; led the Indians with 13 digs against No. 12 Wallace State, five digs and two blocks against Pasco-Hernando State and eight digs against Snead State.
Lyons and her teammates will be back in action on Sept. 6 when they travel to Hanceville, Ala. for the Alabama-Mississippi Crossover Tournament at Wallace State Community College, where they will face Bevill State at 1 p.m. and Wallace State at 5 p.m.
