LedaSwan Dancers are bringing the mesmerizing Japanese dance style Butoh to the Powerhouse Theater as part of Hoka Days.
The show will run at 8 p.m. on Friday and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Butoh is known for its striking and sometimes shocking themes, exaggerated facial expressions, and dramatic white body paint. At the same time, it draws deeply from traditional Japanese aesthetics like minimalism and the beauty of nature.
The show’s style ranges from slapstick through the sublime, presenting a full range of human emotion. The dances feature both subtle and spectacular movement, often within the same piece.
The show is written and directed by Kido Jimmyle Listenbee, with performances by Marian Barksdale, Rachel Coleman, Sariyah Coleman, Allison Estes, Kido Listenbee, Jennifer Mizenko, and Blake Summers.
