The discovery of bones on a construction site caused some mayhem on Thursday.
According to Oxford Mayor Robyn Tannehill, bones were discovered at the construction site of the Downtown Regional Detention Project.
“Late afternoon, yesterday, July 18, the contractor employed by the city of Oxford for the Downtown Regional Detention Project unearthed what the contractor identified as bones,” Tannehill wrote on social media.
The contractors ceased work on the site immediately after finding the bones. They were located 12-18 inches deep in “an area of the project known as the City Grocery Parking Lot.”
Archaeologist Dr. Jay Johnson met with Tannehill and company on the site and confirmed that the bones belonged to a cow. Specifically, “a cow that had been butchered” according to Tannehill’s tweet.
