The Lafayette Commodores are headed to the 5A Mississippi High School Baseball State Championship after defeating the New Hope Trojans 1-0 on Saturday.
Lafayette (26-7) and New Hope were in a tight pitcher’s battle throughout the first four innings of the game.
The Commodores scratched a run across in the fifth on a line out to left off the bat of Foster Crockett to make it 1-0.
Lafayette had Tanner Harris on the mound against the Trojans. Harris pitched 7.0 complete scoreless innings to pick up the win on three hits, two walks and five strikeouts.
Lafayette will take on either the winner of South Jones or Vancleave for the 5A State Championship series.
