Harold Lynn Greer

Harold Lynn Greer, 85, passed away, Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at his home in Oxford. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Allen and Rev. Don Gann officiating. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at noon.

Born April 9, 1933, in Hickory Flat, Miss., to Linsyl and Reavis Greer, Mr. Greer was a graduate of Macedonia High School in Myrtle, Miss. and the University of Mississippi. He was an active member of First Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Corporal. In earlier years, He was active with the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Exchange Club and was a member of the Board of Directors for Oxford Hospital. Mr. Greer has been married to his high school sweetheart, Marvelyn Mayfield Greer for 64 years. Together, they ran the Lynn Greer Insurance Agency on the Oxford Square for many years. He also worked with the Mississippi Public Service Commission. An avid fisherman and loyal Ole Miss fan, he loved to travel to the western United States and was a great student of world and U.S. History. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Norris Greer.

Mr. Greer is survived by his wife, Marvelyn Mayfield Greer of Oxford, Miss.; sons, Hal Greer and his wife, Martha of Brentwood, Tenn. and Alan Greer and his wife, Gaye of Germantown, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Austin Greer and his wife, Ellie, John Greer, Christy Keys and her husband, Andrew, Lynley Goddard and her husband, Mitch and Casey Greer; four great grandchildren; brothers, Jackie Greer and his wife, Jean of Myrtle and David Greer and his wife, Betty of Hickory Flat and one sister, Molly Byers and her husband, William of Hickory Flat.

In honor of Mr. Greer’s service to his country, the flag of the United States Air Force will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.
