An officer with the Oxford Police Department conducted a traffic stop for careless driving on South Lamar Boulevard at approximately 1:13 a.m. on Aug. 25.

The driver, Martin Simmons, 27 of Oxford, was suspected of driving under the influence. A record check conducted by the officer discovered Simmons had at least three prior DUI convictions, and he was subsequently arrested. Simmons was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was charged with DUI 4^th and careless driving.

Simmons’ bond was set at $10,000 by a Justice Court Judge.
