Doris E. Embry

Doris E. Embry passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford after 91 years in this life. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Oxford Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Don Gann officiating. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born to the late George and Lela Grace Roberts, Mrs. Embry was the widow of Mr. Ed Embry and a member of First Baptist Church. She retired from the University of Mississippi Department of Athletics as a receptionist.

A lover of Ole Miss sports, she especially enjoyed football and basketball. She will be remembered for her beauty and kindness, always seeing the best in every situation and person. She believed in the goodness of everyone, loved music and often enjoyed dancing at Hermitage Gardens.

Blessed with a green thumb, Mrs. Embry found great pleasure in tending her flower garden.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Walter Joseph Hardaway; grandson, Joseph Daniel Stribling; son-in-law, James J. Canale as well as two sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Sally Hardaway Canale of Germantown, Tenn.; Jill Hardaway Stribling and her husband, Rick Thurlow of Oxford,  and two grandchildren, Andrew Joseph Canale and his wife, Claire, and Shelby Stribling Jones and her husband, Cody.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Embry’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Mississippi, 207 W Jackson St., Ridgeland, MS 39157
