On a mission to clean up Oxford

We often brag about the beauty of our community.
At its interior, from the well-manicured entrances of Ole Miss to the sidewalks of the Oxford Square we have a picture-perfect place to live.
But it’s not that way everywhere in Oxford or Lafayette County. Roads like Anchorage, as just one example, have too much trash that gets left alongside. In fact, you can get on roads in any direction along the city’s perimeter that are literally littered.
The beauty of Oxford should extend beyond the Square and the entrances to Ole Miss.
That’s why a group in Leadership Lafayette has decided to make picking up along our littered roadways a priority.
We applaud this effort and hope that other civic groups and organizations will learn more and consider signing up for the May 19 cleanup effort.
You can make suggestions to the group on roadways that need cleaning up, too.
The hope is that youth, civic groups, churches – every organization that loves God’s green Oxford and wants to keep it that way can join in.
Let’s also not forget to tip a hat toward the Oxford-Lafayette Chamber of Commerce which manages the annual Leadership Lafayette program that spawned this idea and others to make our community better.
