Kevin Phelps Moore, 57, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018.
A lifelong resident of Grenada, Miss., Kevin graduated from Kirk Academy in 1978. After graduating from the University of Mississippi in 1982 with a B.S. in Business Administration, Kevin began a career in investment banking which spanned the next 30 years. By his side all the way was his wife of 34 years, Pamela Lyons Moore.
Kevin and Pam’s family include their daughter Lauren and her husband, Wade Broyles, of Madison, Miss.; daughter Emily and her husband, Chris Haynes, of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter Meredith Moore of Grenada, Miss., and grandchildren Lyla Kate Broyles and Adalynn Grace Haynes. The family is also awaiting the arrival of grandson Bowen Wade Broyles. Other family members who will continue to miss Kevin include his mother, Mrs. Mary Belle Moore of Oxford; 2 sisters, Ruth Davis (Neill) of Houston, Texas and Mary Green (Stan) of Brandon, Miss.; and 2 brothers; Walt Moore (Jerilou) of Oakland, Miss., and Edward Moore (Dawn) of Columbia, Tenn. His father, Walter Vernon Moore, Sr. and his brother, Lee Forrest Moore, preceded Kevin in death.
One word comes to mind when describing Kevin, and that word is backbone: the chief support, the mainstay, and cornerstone. Kevin was all of these and more. He was the tower of strength for his family, church, and business, and also for his community. Grenada, along with his family and friends, has lost a pillar that will not soon be forgotten.
Kevin began his professional career in 1987 joining the Sunburst Financial Group. This career took him through mergers of Union Planters Financial Services, PFIC Securities and Morgan Keegan until he opened in 2013 the office of Moore-Branscome Wealth Management, a division of Raymond James.
Kevin was a man with a servant’s heart and his commitment to the community was evident through his involvement in various organizations. He served 10 years on the Board of Directors for the Grenada Education Foundation for Kirk Academy. He was a 30-year member of the Kiwanis Club serving as president and as the Lt. Governor for District 1-A of North Mississippi. He was currently serving as president-elect of the organization. He has been instrumental as co-chairman of the Grenada Community Foundation in efforts to revitalize the Grenada downtown. He is a member of the North Mississippi Emmaus Community and has served Emmanuel Baptist Church as a deacon, an usher, and on various other committees.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada with Rev. Eugene Heimbach, Dr. Brent Barker and Dr. Clarence Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Baptist Church, Grenada Community Foundation, or Kiwanis Club.
