OXFORD — James Henry Brummett died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Coleman Funeral Home with burial to follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017, from 3 p.m. until service time at Coleman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
A native of Lafayette County, he served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Biloxi and was part of every major military operation in the Pacific during the way. He was honorably discharged after earning nine battle stars.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers and a grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jimmie Sue Mask Brummett of Taylor; daughters Barbara Brummett Warren of Water Valley, Elaine Brummett Mitchell of Pontotoc, Marilyn Brummett Stuckey of Tupelo and Tina Brummett Biffle of Thaxton; son James C. “Pete” Brummett of Taylor; sister Dorothy Brummett Gardner of Oxford; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

In honor of Mr. Brummett’s service to our country, the flag of the United States Navy will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home.
