Lafayette County is now home to a new community group that is officially aligned with the Republican National Committee.
The Oxford Pachyderm Club is the first chapter of the National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs in Mississippi, joining 60 others clubs across the United States.
The club’s first meeting will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 at the Country Club of Oxford. Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) is scheduled to be the guest speaker.
“I am honored to speak at the first ever meeting of The Oxford Pachyderm Club,” Wicker said. “I look forward to visiting with fellow Republicans about working with President Trump to grow our economy, keep our country safe and fight for conservative values.”
Republican Alderman candidates, Jason Bailey (Ward 6) and Mark Huelse (Ward 2) are also scheduled to speak and share their thoughts on Oxford’s infrastructure in relation to the town’s growth.
In a recent election between the founding members of The Pachyderm Club, Russ Jones was elected as President of the organization, Dion Kevin as treasurer and Jackie Jones as secretary.
“I’m optimistic about this new endeavor during these critical times,” Jones said. “The Oxford Pachyderm Club will provide a platform for education, recruitment and broad citizen participation in the political process for volunteers as well as activists.”
The Pachyderm Club will offer programs based around politics and government and looks to remain active all year. The public is welcome to attend the meetings which will be held the third Tuesday of each month at the Country Club of Oxford. Annual dues are $60 per person.
To RSVP for the luncheon, email rjones60@gmail.com. The cost will be $22 per person.
