The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department announced Friday it will not be filing formal charges against a woman who might be responsible for the stabbing death of a local man last month.
Anthony Bogard, 42, was found dead at a home on County Road 288 on March 22. He had been stabbed several times.
Investigators took a woman into custody after the incident, who allegedly had several facial injuries.
On Friday, Chief Investigator Alan Wilburn said the sheriff’s department would not be charging the woman with any crime as evidence pointed to the killing being in self-defense.
The woman lived at the CR 288 home where Bogard was killed; however, Bogard did not live there.
“There was not enough evidence to support murder or manslaughter,” Wilburn said Friday. “After interviewing witnesses, we determined it was self-defense.”
Wilburn said the case will still be presented to the grand jury in May, which will decide if an indictment should be handed down against the woman for Bogard’s death.
