Long-time Taylor mayor James E. Hamilton will run opposed in the June 6 election.
The deadline to qualify was Friday. Hamilton is the third mayor of incorporated town in Lafayette County to run unopposed. Abbeville Mayor Scott Fricker and Oxford mayoral candidate Robyn Tannehill also have no opposition.
Hamilton could not be reached for comment.
Four of Taylor’s incumbent aldermen also filed to retain their seats on the board, including Tim Bridges, Ellen Meacham, Courtney Covington and Jimmie Willkingham. Alderman Betty Kisner will not be running in the election.
Other Taylor residents who did file to run for one of the five aldermen seats are: Carolyn “Lyn” Roberts, Justin Reid and Noel Montgomery.
The top five candidates who earn the most votes on June 6 will become, or remain, aldermen.
The deadline for Taylor residents to register to vote is 30 days prior to the election.
