Public Service Commission Chairman Brandon Presley announced Tuesday that the PSC has approved Atmos Energy’s plan to extend natural gas service to the White Oak Community in Tunica County. The project stems from Presley’s push to bring natural gas to as many unserved, rural communities in Mississippi as possible.
The White Oak project has the potential to serve up to 215 customers and was made financially possible through cooperation with the Tunica County Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors, which also wanted to see the White Oak Community served, agreed to invest almost $200,000 into the $485,000 project.
“Tunica County provides us with a good lesson in helping Mississippians through state and local cooperation. The hard work and generosity shown by the Board of Supervisors, particularly Supervisor Phillis Williams, who represents the White Oak Community, and Atmos Energy just goes to show that if we realize how important helping rural people is, we can make it happen when we work together,” Presley said.
