Ole Miss’ Sebastian Saiz named second-team All-SEC

Sebastian Saiz got some love from Southeastern Conference men’s basketball coaches Thursday.

Ole Miss’ senior forward was named to the preseason All-SEC second team as selected by the league’s coaches. The 6-foot-9 Saiz averaged 11.7 points and 8.7 rebounds last season and enters his final year as the SEC’s career active leader with 599 rebounds.

Saiz, who’s also second in the league among active players with nine career double-doubles, is healthy after missing a handful of games a season ago following surgery to repair a partially detached retina.

“Sebas is one of my favorite guys that I’ve ever had here,” Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said. “He’s a guy that I’ve challenged to be a double-double guy for us this year and lead the SEC in rebounding, which I think will have great value for him and our team moving forward. I think that’s a challenge that he’s up for.”

Ole Miss opens its season Friday against Tennessee-Martin at the Pavilion. Tip is set for 6 p.m.

Ten different schools were represented on the All-SEC teams led by Kentucky’s four selections. The Wildcats and Georgia were the only teams with multiple first-team selections.
