Night out to benefit OLHS

Whether you’re looking for a fun night on the town for Valentine’s Day as a singleton or as a longtime couple, there’s an event that promises fun and good will.
A Cause for The Paws is Feb. 13 at The Lyric and all event proceeds benefit the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society.
The fundraiser is the brainchild of Matt Payne, owner of Vida-Mend. Instead of using a budget to advertise for his business, he decided to plan a fundraiser to promote good will.
“It’s so expensive to advertise in Oxford I would rather the money to go to something that truly matters,” he said. “I’ve been a part of some other charity projects with LOFT and I’ve donated to a couple different charities. But I don’t see as much going to the animal shelter, so it was kind of a no-brainer to me.”
Payne attended the University of Mississippi and recently returned to town to open his business in April.
“We are an IV hydration business,” he said. “You can come in and get IV fluids, vitamins. If you’re getting over an illness or are dehydrated, you can come in. A medical doctor oversees everything and we only use registered nurses.”
Because Payne is familiar with Oxford and the university, he knew what band would be willing to help for charity and would bring in a crowd, regardless of age: Mustache The Band.
“They’re a well-known local band,” Payne said. “They’re a cover band. They play at The Library a lot. They play ’90s country music. They have their little niche and are really good at it. They said at first when we tried to book them they could not do it. But I mentioned it was for the animal shelter and they changed their mind and said that was a good cause.”
The band starts at 9 p.m., but doors open at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $20, and offering a sponsorship gets you a table upstairs for a better view of the band. Some sponsors have already gotten on board: Tannehill, Carmean and McKenzie law firm, Snooze Mattress and Yalobusha Brewery.
Tickets can be purchased at Vida-Mend, the humane society or at The Lyric, and for more information, contact 662-638-3600.
“We are so excited that Vita-Mend chose to have a fundraiser for our shelter animals,” said humane society board president Cyd Dunlap. “We hope everyone will come out to the Lyric to hear the Mustache Band and help a homeless animal here at OLHS.”
