The No. 25 ranked Ole Miss women’s tennis team opened the dual match portion of the 2016 season Saturday with two shutout wins against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Gillom Sports Center.
With Arkansas-Pine Bluff only having five players, the two teams started with singles. In the first match, Arianne Hartono, Mai El Kamash, Zalina Khairudinova, Brooke Stevens and Allie Robbins all won without dropping game.
In the second match, head coach Mark Beyers change up the lineup a bit, but the result was the same. This time, sophomore Natalie Suk played No. 1 singles, and she won 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Tea Jandric also made her debut, winning by the same score at No. 2 singles. Milutinovic finished off the second match at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
“We were definitely the better team today and the girls took care of business, getting two wins quickly,” Beyers said. “It’s one of those things where our strength of schedule is so tough you have to have a match where it’s a little bit easier. I am really looking forward to seeing what we can do against a top-10 team like Stanford.”
The Rebels will hit the road next week to Nashville, Tennessee to play a neutral site match against No. 7 ranked Stanford on Friday at 11 a.m.
