Jack Abraham thought he knew where he was going to play his college football, but a coaching change has made him reconsider his options.

Oxford’s senior quarterback decommitted from Tulane on Monday, making the announcement on Twitter. Abraham had been verbally committed to the Green Wave since April, but Tulane recently fired Curtis Johnson after a 3-9 season and replaced him with Willie Fritz, who spent the last two seasons at Georgia Southern.

Though known to flexible with his offensive schemes, Fritz’s Georgia Southern teams have led the nation in rushing the last two seasons with a version of the triple option and have averaged 651 rush attempts over that span compared to just 142 passes. Abraham, who set Oxford single-season records for passing yards (5,091) and touchdown passes (57) this season, is a true pocket passer.

“I spoke to coach Fritz and unfortunately his plan for the offense at Tulane is a bad fit for me,” Abraham posted to his Twitter account. “I believe in Tulane football and was excited to be part of the Tulane University family. God has a plan.”

Abraham, who was planning to enroll early at Tulane, has offers from California, Louisiana Tech and South Alabama and has generated some interest from UCLA. He was recently named Mississippi’s Gatorade Player of the Year, the first Oxford football player to ever win the award.

Abraham’s 5,091 passing yards rank in the top 5 nationally this season. He threw for 11,967 yards and 130 touchdowns in his career.
