Oxford tops finishers at Mississippi College Open

It was a clean sweep for the Oxford High boys and girls cross-country teams as they placed first at the Mississippi College Open at Clinton on Saturday. The boys claimed the top spot with 43 points, finishing 35 points ahead of second-place East Union (78).
The Chargers had two runners finish in the top 10 with Jonathan Tyler placing runner-up with a time of 16 minutes, 50 seconds. It was 20 seconds slower than the first-place runner out of Sumner.
Alex Thomas claimed the 10th spot with a time of 17:32.
John Owen Yoste earned a top 15 finish, placing 13th (17:37), while Charles Powell placed 16th (17:48). Harriman Abernathy placed 22nd with a time of 18 minutes flat while Kenard Harris, Thomas Mayo and Will Farmer finished 24th, 25th and 26th, respectively.
The Lady Chargers earned 30 points, giving them the first-place finish.
Addie Thompson finished second with a time of 20:09 while Margaret Adams came in fifth (21:03) and Ally Shinall ended up seventh (21:28).
Katelyn Rock placed 12th with a time of 22:14, and McCall Mullins followed in 13th place (22:18).
Lafayette
The Commodores had a strong showing Saturday as the Lady Commodores finished second overall behind Oxford with 56 points.
Along with Oxford, Lafayette had two top 5 finishers with Angelle Primeaux finishing first with a time of 19:41 while Taylor Stansbury placed fourth (20:59).
Anna Gibbens was the next highest finisher, placing 15th with a time of 22:25. Rebecca Messonnier rounded out the top 20 with a time of 23:09.
The boys’ team came in sixth place overall with 157 points.
Mostafa Meselhe was the highest finisher for Lafayette, placing 17th with a time of 17:49. Daniel Bradberry gave the next best result, finishing 30th (18:19), while McCoy Smith finished 40th (18:48).
Kyle Barras (19:15.63) and Dylan Dauphiney (19:15.74) placed 50th and 51st, respectively.
