Flora Johnson Slate
Flora Johnson Slate, 72, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building in Oxford with the Rev. Bobby Dailey officiating. Burial will be in Buford Chapel Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Oxford, she was a member of Buford Chapel UM Church. She had served the Methodist church as a choir member and youth director. She was also administrator at Kid’s College, a foster grandparent at North Mississippi Regional Center and a motivational speaker. She was a retired elementary school teacher from Lafayette Elementary School and also taught at Wackenhut Correctional Facility in Holly Springs. She loved singing, sewing, cooking and reading.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Johnson.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Isaac Slate Sr. of Oxford; two daughters, Rodanthi Lewis of Dallas, Texas and Robbie Hart of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; son, Isaac Slate Jr. of Oxford; two brothers, Reginald Johnson and Dwight Johnson, both of Oxford; and five grandchildren.
