Fall Film Preview

OXFORD TOWN – Welcome back students. In this week’s issue of Oxford Town, the Oxford Film Freak (Melanie Addington) tackles her annual fall film preview again this year and from the looks of it, we can expect tons of action, great remakes and one or two films that are causing an early Oscar buzz. One of the first films up (Aug. 26) is “Our Idiot Brother” starring Paul Rudd (pictured). ‘The Help’ premiers; opens Aug. 10

OXFORD TOWN – The new film “The Help” opens Aug. 10 and many critics around the country have already seen it and are screaming its accolades. The Mississippi premiere took place in Jackson and the Oxford Film Freak was there along with James Meredith and Gov. Haley Barbour. Whose personhood?

New Indie film to shoot next month in Oxford

OXFORD TOWN – A new film by local Jim Shollenberger will begin shooting in Oxford and the surrounding area this month. The film,“Bent Prism,” is a three-story anthology dealing with the pain of relationships. Turn to Page 11 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town and check out Oxford Film Freak Melanie Addington’s early coverage of the L-O-U community’s next film endeavor. Actress Haley Strode (pictured) will be in town filming one of the stories in the new film, “The Hardest Thing.” (June 16, 2011, Page 11)

Animal rescue?

One hundred and two. Yes, 102. That’s the number of animals euthanized between May 26 and 31, according to the the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society, because of behavior, illness and space. One killed in powerful storms


UPDATE: SWM Company on CR 166 was damaged due to the storms. The company is looking to try and move into another building but is shut down.

Oxford School District announced at 12:50 p.m. that they will be keeping the students until the threat of storms is past. There will be no early release.

Lafayette School District said they will remain with the students in the halls until the tornado warning is past. There will be no early release.

Authors Franklin, Pendarvis, Durkee, Thompson and others are scheduled read from the book.
